Rory & Mick
Rory is 16 and left Perth High School in May 2006 and started his work placement with McLeod Glaziers, a small Perth glazing firm, in June 2006. He spends most of his time with Mick, an experienced window technician.
Rory said, "It's been good, more than I expected. It's more complicated than I expected. I'm learning more skills. I've learned how to communicate with older people and that. I didn't start speaking to older people until I got into this job. I've got a lot more confidence now than when I started. It feels like a proper job. Just getting up in the morning and acting respectfully when knockin' at people's doors. It's a proper job to me."
Mick thinks "Rory's fine. He does what you ask and everything else. There's nae chat from him and he knuckles down and does what he's telt. That's all you're looking for really. And he's learning and picking up bits and pieces as we go along. I was a bit worried that I was going to get a young laddie with a chip on his shoulder, but no, Rory's been fine. He;s a bit more talkative now. He was quite shy when he first came but now he's different. More open......and taller!
