Gail’s charity trek for Diabetes

Marking her 30th birthday and finding a challenging way to fundraise for charity inspired Gail Park, Fairfield’s Housing Administrator, to walk the whole of the West Highland Way over 6 days.
Having insulin dependent diabetes for 21 years, Gail wanted to raise some money for Diabetes UK, a nationwide charity which funds research into treatment, education and hopefully one day, a cure. Having started using an insulin pump earlier this year, Gail wanted to highlight the work that Diabetes UK does for the promotion of insulin pumps for Type 1 diabetics.
Setting off from Milgavie on Sunday 27th Sept, the group of 30-something friends started the trek with 5 overnight stops at Balmaha, Inversnaid, Tyndrum, Kingshouse, and Kinlochleven. The group reached the finishing point at Fort William on Friday 2nd October.
“The trek was certainly no ‘walk in the park’ but it was so worthwhile as it was for a cause close to my heart. It was hard going at certain points but the overall experience was amazing, leaving me with a real sense of achievement!” Although Gail had set a fundraising target of £500, the donations have pushed this total to around £750 and still rising!
