Fairfield Committee

The Co-operative is delighted that all 15 places on it’s Committee of Management have been filled this year and the tradition of a strong and active tenant board continues in Fairfield.
Familiar faces remain at the core of the committee and the Co-operative would not be where it is today without them. Their hard work and relentless commitment over the years has made Fairfield the success story it is now and it is reassuring to have their experience and expertise.
It’s always good to get a new perspective or an alternative view though and that’s why it is crucial for us to continue to attract new members onto the board. We have four new committee members this year: Kerry Ward, George Kennedy, Scott Henderson and Ashleigh Bunce.
George will be a well known face to a lot of Fairfield residents having lived here most of his life and being active in the community. He now lives in Menzies Court and is one of the many tenants who attends the Fairfield Lunch Club at the Neighbourhood Centre and also enjoys a spot of bowls.
Ashleigh lives in the Co-operative’s new block at Morris Court and was keen to get involved with the local community in which she lives. Ashleigh’s job with the NHS involves organising and developing activities for older people to promote independence and mobility so she already has some experience of working with community groups, “I have enjoyed my first few meetings, not only hearing about the business side of things, but meeting the other committee members – they were really good company.”
New Vice Chair for the year is May Millar of Tollhouse Gardens. May has been a serving committee members since February 2008 and was elected to the Vice Chair position in August this year. May is a keen gardener and swims every day. She has also enjoyed attending some of the committee member conferences over the last few years, “These are a great chance to meet committee members from other associations and co-operatives and find out what they are involved in – you can pick up new ideas and be inspired by what others are doing.”
As they say, ‘something old, something new’ – the mix of experience plus fresh ideas will hopefully stand us in good stead and we look forward to working with all of our committee members in what we hope will be a productive and happy year ahead.
