Fairfield Housing Perth, applying for a house

Fairfield Housing Co-operative is a major housing provider in the city of Perth, managing just under 400 properties. We aim to allocate housing to those in genuine housing need, and provide quality homes, maintained to a high standard.

Anyone over the age of 16 can apply for housing, and we provide accommodation suitable for families, the elderly, disabled and single people.

At the moment, all our homes are located in the Fairfield area of Perth, close to local facilities such as supermarkets, schools, a nursery and easy access to the city centre by road and public transport.

To apply for a property in Fairfield, you need to fill in an application form and return it to us. To get an application for you can:

Pick up an application form from Fairfield's Offices at 5 Fairfield Avenue, Perth, or Telephone us on 01738 630738 and we'll send one out to you, or, download one from our website, it's listed on the Downloads Page.

Housing Need

We award points to each applicant according to their housing need and properties are then allocated to those with the highest points. For example, we may award points if you are overcrowded, don't have permanent housing, or live in housing which has structural defects. If you are already a tenant and occupy a house or a flat which is adequate for your needs, then you may not be awarded any points and therefore have little or no priority for re-housing. You should still apply though, so that your circumstances can be assessed.

Medical Conditions

If you have a medical condition which is made worse by your current housing circumstances, you should complete a medical assessment form and send this back with your application form. You can find one of these on the Download page as well.

You may be awarded additional points depending on how badly your current housing affects your health.

Nominations

Out of all the properties we have available over the year, we aim to allocate 45% of these to applicants from the Perth and Kinross Council's Housing List. Your application would still need to be assessed and points allocated. If you have not already applied to them, you should do so in order that you might be nominated to the Co-operative for re-housing.

Refusals

Applicants will receive two offers of housing where possible. If you refuse the second offer, your application will be deferred for six months. This means you will still be on the Co-operative's Housing List, but you will not be actively considered for housing for six months.

In order to avoid this, please make sure you provide us with as much information as possible about where and what type of property you would like.

How Long Will You Have To Wait?

Because the housing List changes from day to day, it is impossible to predict how long it may take to house you. It depends on how frequently houses are vacated, and which sizes and types become available.

Please note, your placing on our housing list could change from day to day, depending on other applicants and their priority.
